Hot and dry conditions will return to the area starting Sunday, August 20, 2023. The NWS has an Excessive Heat Warning in effect from Sunday into Wednesday. Current models have highs in the upper 90s with a heat index in the triple digits. We could also see temperatures rise into the triple digits midweek as the heat dome moves overhead.
Along with the heat, we will see dry conditions with no appreciable precipitation expected. The Weather Prediction Center’s 7-day rainfall map clearly shows a lack of rain over the Midwest in the next 7 days.
